This week & last: Meteora, Santorini, Cape Sounion, and the Corinth Canal. A short trip to Sweden next week.
For folks not in the know, this is a weekly stream of consciousness zero-agenda “here’s what’s happening” or “here’s what’s interesting” post.
What’s been happening
- I missed last week’s update as we decided to extend our stay in Europe by a week. We’ve finished our stint in Greece and going up north to Sweden to catch up with Anoop starting tomorrow.
- We loved Meteora, the mountains were amazing and the weather was just perfect. It definitely seems like mini-Avatar mountains and the monasteries on top were also perfect and tiny. Women have to cover up to enter the monasteries, and Ammu wore a beautiful skirt.

- We went to Santorini next. We spent 3 days there, with extra days for the to-and-fro ferry. It wasn’t the favourite part of our trip. To be honest, it was super crowded, and Oia especially was filled with tourists. We did like our visit to Akrotiri, the lost Minoan colony, with its rumors that it’s what inspired stories of Atlantis. The food selections were pricy, but frankly amazing, it’s got some really tasty Greek food.

- No workouts this week and the last. I did catch up on a few warmups, and we’ve been walking a lot, but looking forward to getting back to regular workouts next week.
- We also visited Cape Sounion and Poseidon’s temple, and that was a nice day trip from Athens. The sunset from the temple frankly felt better than the one in Oia.
- And we did another short day trip to the Corinth canal and Akrokorinth. The Corinth canal is a lessor known man-made canal that connects two seas (the famous cousins are the Panama and the Suez) and its invention was so obvious that the attempts were made by both Greek and Roman rulers.

- No updates on my plans for what’s next, our current focus is still on the trip. I’ll be back home on the 24th.
Links of the Week
- An important video on the impact of anger on young children. I think many Indian children grow up half-traumatized because of our collective nature to slap around kids.
- Liked this article from the Anthropic CEO about AI. It paints a rosy picture of the future, but it is believable.
- This interview with William Dalrymple is pretty amazing to listen to. Ancient India was a fascinating place. Some particularly good bits and uncomfortable truths about expansionist India starting 32:00.
