Last week: Greece trip with lots of pictures, workouts, and a surprise!
For folks not in the know, this is a weekly stream of consciousness zero-agenda “here’s what’s happening” or “here’s what’s interesting” post.
What’s been happening
- I’m writing this post from small town ????????? (Kalabaka) where we’ve got an awesome view of the Meteora mountains. Tomorrow we’ll climb up these mountains to see the monasteries.

- Our Greece trip has been amazing until now. The Acropolis (despite the crowds) is fantastic, and definitely one of those things that takes your breath away when you imagine what it used to be like. We also really liked walking through Plaka, with its small streets, music, graffiti, and small eateries everywhere.

- The food has been fantastic as well, and Ammu is now a huge fan of gyros, soulvakis and baklavas. So am I, the food is super tasty, and very Indian palate friendly. My theory is that it’s probably the Turkish influence.

- Workouts were good last week. Started on a new set that Pradyum says will be lower effort, and I could definitely feel that. Of course, this week will be all about why I’m doing these workouts: good food and some beer. But we’re walking a ton, 10k steps effortlessly almost every day.

- We also visited Delphi, and while most of it is in ruins, the experience of the guided tour from Athens was great. One thing I noticed was how much Christianity borrowed from these old “pagan” religions. Even a lot of the iconography and figurines look the same.

- Surprise: I quit my job last week ? Why? Well, Automattic offered some really good severance, and I took it mostly because as one friend advised: it’s better to reinvent yourself every few years than face obsolescence, and I didn’t want to be branded as a “WordPress developer” everywhere I went 🙂 Much as the WPGraphQL guy said about his move the other way around, it’s really got nothing to do with alignment. I’m too apolitical to feel strongly about a product but I do feel that the Automattic, Matt, and WordPress.org tangle can use some untangling.
- What next? Well, it’s so true that life doesn’t always go in straight lines but zigs and zags. I don’t have anything concrete planned, but I’m looking out. If you have an interesting opportunity, do ping. Ammu & I have been having some good conversations lately about how this affects our plans for the baby & the new house, and I’m thankful that she’s understanding and open about looking at all options as they come in.
- Our current focus is still on the trip. We’re going to Santorini as well, and perhaps Corinth too. We’re also adding on a short trip to visit Anoop in Stockholm, that’ll be nice 🙂
Links of the Week
- Tripsy seems like a nice app to bookmark for the next time I do a trip.
- Can confirm that Saily, this new eSIM service from the folks at NordVPN works, and works well. Beautiful, no-nonsense interface and SIMs that work the first time, every time.
- Some nice thoughts from Dries on how to solve the attribution problem in OSS from a contributor, company, and customer PoV. Interesting!
