This week: Onam celebrations, workout progress, Greece trip planning, LOBA meetup, Apple Event highlights, movie review, IVF prep, and anti-SaaS pricing models.
For folks not in the know, this is a weekly stream of consciousness zero-agenda “here’s what’s happening” or “here’s what’s interesting” post.
What’s been happening
- Onam! One of the 2 big Hindu festivals in Kerala, and the one that’s probably the most secular. I saw a lot of my Muslim and Christian friends celebrating, and that was lovely to see in this age where divisions seem to exist everywhere. I went to my mom and dad’s place and had Sadya for Thiruvonam, and later in the day we went out to Kovalam and had some dinner. Tomorrow I’m going to my wife’s parents’ place, and I’m taking a day off from work.

- Ammu’s friend Veena also came over last week, and I had strict instructions to “stay away” while they caught up on gossip. Towards evening, we walked over to a small eatery nearby and had some coffee.

- Workouts were good last week, and I’m really feeling a bit of difference in my body. Neither my measurements nor my weight has budged much though.

- We booked most of our tickets for Greece except for the round-trip one to Meteora. I’m finding neither trains nor convenient bus tickets to the location, so I’ll probably try pinging a few folks from A8C who are in Greece. We’ll be gone from October 5th to the 16th, and Ammu is super excited 🙂
- Went to the LOBA annual general body meetup last week and that was fun. Caught up with a bunch of folks and our batch barely missed the award for the most attendees, the first time we’ve come even remotely close to achieving that.

- The Apple Event was fun. It’s become a yearly thing for me where I settle down with a drink and watch the keynote live. This time I thought the new Apple Watch was fantastic, and Camera Control on the new iPhones was interesting. Apple has added (not removed) two new buttons to the iPhones the last 2 years, super weird and interesting. AirPods with ANC as standard (even without earbuds) was interesting as well. AirPods Pro as a medical-grade hearing aid is probably the most impactful one though: it’s cool to wear AirPods unlike other hearing aids.
- I watched Rebel Ridge this week, and it’s basically Rambo or John Wick or Reacher, but less fun.

- We went to the hospital this week to start IVF rounds again. This was just a prep visit as it’s only happening in January, and this time we’re doing it with a donor egg. ??
Links of the Week
- I’ve been thinking about anti-SaaS pricing models, and how that’s becoming more and more prominent. Once, Affinity, and Astra are examples.
- This video of a bike stunt on a moving train is just surreal and an example of Newtonian physics.
