Weekly Notes 33/2024

This week: drinking Raki, watching Deadpool & Wolverine, battling fever, and enjoying time with friends and pets. Also a plug to StartGlobal.

For folks not in the know, this is a weekly stream of consciousness zero-agenda “here’s what’s happening” or “here’s what’s interesting” post.

What’s been happening

  • I’ve been having a drink of Raki the last few weekends. It took a while for me to get used to the taste, but now it feels like a strong, refreshing drink to have. It feels a bit like Soju or Sake, but stronger, and I can’t imagine having it without lots of water, like a lot of Turkish people seem to do.
  • Watched Deadpool & Wolverine this week in a cinema. IMAX is definitely the way to go for this one, and Marvel seems to have pulled no plugs in making an A-rated version of one of their movies. It’s got a bunch of fourth wall breaking, an awesome title sequence and enough cameos of X-Men to kinda hint that Marvel is probably going to lean on that franchise next. The movie is entertaining, but this is still one of the worst periods for the MCU till date.
  • I lost a couple of days of work this week because I ran a fever. I’m better now, but still not 100%. Almost an entire day I was just in bed, and the doctor said that viral fever is pretty rampant now. My mom was sick for about a month with H1N1.
  • I completed only 2 of 3 workouts this week because of the fever. I’ll catch up on the last later today. I had a bunch of comfort food as well, so not a lot of progress to report this week. Rep counts remain stable though from last week:
  • Pranchi is growing up fast! His worm problem seems largely sorted, and Ammu (who visited Vellayani this weekend) says that he’s become a naughty and playful pup. Here’s a video:
  • Sooraj and Liz (Ammu’s friends) visited this week. We had a good time catching up, and I might have fed Sooraj a bit too much Raki. Ammu is super excited about Liz’s pregnancy and we bought her a bunch of snacks to eat this week. Since Liz is a big believer in Mother Mary, we also gifted her a plaque of the black Mary we bought in Montserrat.
  • Started watching Manorathangal this week. Olavum Theeravum is the short we watched, and both of us weren’t that impressed with it. The plot seems rushed, and the black & white doesn’t seem to be graded well at all. Let’s hope the next ones are better.
  • Both of us went to see Vaishnavi dancing last Sunday. There was a bunch of dance performances and lots of light and color and traditional dance.

      Links of the Week

      • Just a plug to StartGlobal, where Gautham is COO. It seems exciting to see startup ventures taking off from our small state, and crowd investing is also very cool.
