This week: the Youtube global Top 100, unity in diversity, and the beginnings of a villa home for us.
For folks not in the know, this is a weekly stream of consciousness zero-agenda “here’s what’s happening” or “here’s what’s interesting” post.
What’s been happening
- I stayed up randomly late one night to watch a lot of the Youtube Top 100 global songs. The number of Indian songs on that list is… a lot. No wonder the top channel on Youtube is T-Series. Also another interesting fact: while there are a bunch of Hindi songs in the list, there’s also a Telugu one in the top 10, and at least a couple of Harayanvi songs. It’s also a bit sad how under-represented North East India is in such listings: and I wonder how many of those folks watch Korean or Japanese songs instead of Indian-origin songs in their own languages.
- I rewatched a song which I think epitomizes the old Indian ideal of plurality or Unity in Diversity. The song brings back so many memories. There’s also a newer HD version here.
- One other random thought from last week: just like the long list of western music folks who borrow from Indian tracks, why not a Korean K-Pop and Bollywood mix? Or better yet: a K-Pop and Tamil mix? I think that combo will go together very well.
- We’re starting to look for a villa to buy here in Thiruvananthapuram. There are very few nice villa projects here, but we found one that seems to fit the bill. The price (even at less than a quarter of Bangalore prices) is barely affordable though. I really don’t want to sink all of my savings into a house (however emotional that decision may be), so taking it slow and thinking about it more. Here’s the link to the one we found.
Links of the Week
- Tried and liked this extension for autogenerating JSDoc doc comments for JavaScript and TypeScript files. Especially for TypeScript, it does a pretty good job!
- This Youtube video where the NVIDIA CEO randomly appears on a livestream with a couple of Chinese singers and jams with them is genuinely one of the most wholesome things I watched recently:
