Relief India Trust is a Scam NGO, Do not Donate!

relief-india-trust-fraud-scam

So I recently got a bunch of calls from an NGO calling itself Relief India Trust. The calls themselves were a bit odd and over zealous with the volunteers flinging themselves at me and describing the plight of children in gory detail, but it was the frequency of the calls that first gave me a clue that something wasn’t right. Then, when I finally decide to put in some money, there’s a volunteer who calls me up, takes me through the donation process and then offers to stay on line until I give her a Transaction ID for the bank transfer.

I did up a Google search and found tons of consumer complaints about the organisation. And if you notice their NGO registration number in the link above, it’s just a plain four digit number: 3696. The Indian Government has an NGO search site where you can search for voluntary organisations by name or their unique registration ID. 3696 doesn’t turn up Relief India Trust. Neither does a search for their name. These are a bunch of scam artists.

Real NGOs probably needn’t be this aggressive. I donate every year to SOS Children’s Village India, which has been my charity of choice since forever. They have a unique take on bringing up disadvantaged children, a personal dialogue (if you wish it) between your kid and you, and I’ve visited their centre in Kerala too.

Update: I’ve receive a legal notice from Relief India Trust. Further developments in a new blog post: Relief India Trust, the Scam NGO, Files a Legal Notice Against my Blog Post for Defamation

  1. I too received a call from 9211248945, the caller identified himself as Mukesh, a volunteer of Relief India Trust located at New Delhi with a request for financial assistance for a cancer patient. The guy sent a link of reliefindiatrust.org and called up 3 times within a hour fund transaction Obviously, he was a scammer desperate for money.

    1. For the last one week I am receiving frequent calls from two guys on behalf of this organisation…First they told me about Pratigya and after that they told me about Shivam..Also he / she told me to mention his / her name while donating.I got doubt and checked in the net. Thanks for this page…

    2. I today recieved a call from 7835058897 asking to donate..

  2. today received same call from guy, he asking me to provide email address and other details as he explained same story to me i.e guy name is shivam and his father is labour …we have to stop here itself ..we should give complaint on them.

  3. I got a call this morning from someone saying he was calling from Relief India Trust based in New Delhi, from a mobile number 07835053273, asking for a donation of Rs.18360/- “for a child named Shivam whose parents are blind”. He said the above amount was the shortfall to meet the total amount of Rs.150000/- for an urgently needed surgery. As almost everyone who has commented here, I too felt the caller was too pushy and literally begging for money. Naturally I smelt a rat and told him firmly that there was no question of making any payments based on a phone call and I would rather check the credentials of Relief India Trust online and would donate online if it is genuine.

Vishnu, your blog has saved the heart burns for several people. And your determination not to cow down to threats from Relief India Trust is highly appreciable.

    1. I have been receiving calls from them for the same shivam who is to be operated at AAIMS, Noida . Kindly somebody in Delhi check if the facts are genuine. But by now i am sure by the way they are operating to be a big big sham which is likely to get exposed shortly. Its high time the cyberpolice cell takes over the case and put the culprrits behind bars !

  4. I got phone call from this before even knowing it is a scam, I have sensed that it is scam. These “data sheets” I suspect are provided by either BSNL or Credit card gateway providers. Because I am from south India The only way people such as these get my number is this: I pay my BSNL bill online- So I am sure one of these is selling personal data.I am also getting calls from insurance agents, and insurance scam artists to my land line from Delhi!! That proves it.Buying this data has advantage for them over blind calling -They will know your name!! We need to close this data source.

    1. Hello All. The new calling number is 7835053289. I received call today by Mr. Kishan(trainee) and then call is taken over by Mr. Nikhil, as I was aware about the facts of RIT through information shared by Mr. Vishnu and all others. I asked only one question to them “In which team do you work R1,R2 or R3”. Reply I got “Did you read the Blogs?” and phone got disconnected.
Thanks to Vishnu and others for sharing the experience.

  8. I too have received a series of calls and SMSs from +91-9911298596 (volunteer: Shubham) with in a span of 2 hours to make the donation faster before 6pm today. Why would an NGO request “donations” in that haste and most notably solicits the Transaction Ref (for getting 80G IT relief .. as they say) of the donation? I am not convinced about the very approach of the volunteer hurrying to get people ‘donate’. I have been doing my small bit of charity to reach the people in real need. Then I made a Google search, found this blog, Thanks.
Donors.. be ware of fraudulent donation requests.

    Guys,

I had receive few calls from Relief India Trust in past and today again i have receive one. Today the experinace was not good so ia have searched abou this NGO and landed to this page.

So, today i have received a call and the guy mentioned that he is from Relief India Trust and he want to talk about some baby and all, In the conversation i told them that i have DND acitivated on my number and they should not call me and the guy told me that its not a marketing call and i should hear them.

From my past expericance i was aware about such fraud calls so i have simply told him that if i want to make donation then i will do it by myself and they should not have my number and should not call me.

At this point a geniune caller should understand and should drop the call but rather than that the person told me that “aap phone rakh dijiye apse kabhi kisi ka help nahi ho payega”, I was not expecting such responce from an NGO and we have an argument and the cut the call.

Just after 1 minute i have recived sms from the same number from which get the call. See the sms below and think how these guys are operating.

I have received another sms just after this which sayd ” apki email id hai (my mail id)” The email id was correct and that means they have my contact details but i am realy not sure why they have send that info to me.

Now i am realy disturbed after reading this SMS and not able to concentrate on my daily work and thinking if should log a complain against this.

At last, i dont want to talk about the NGO is fraud or not but what i want to say is no NGO should force anyone to help a person in need. I used to help homeless people whom i beleive are true in need but i dont think any organisation should push me like this. If some one is “not intrested” then he is “not intrested” and there is no point to say such words or send such SMS.

    Thank You

  10. I also got this call from 9210119609
And 8744053832,..for “anmol” .. I have worked with many NGOs in the past and so the wierd things I noticed about this call is
    1) hurry and impatience.. They are calling me since !morning and pressurizing me on the name of god and all. The way they tell you the whole story compels you to donate then n there only. But there impateince compelled me to check online and thank god I got this blog .
    2) I asked then from where they have got my contact number they replied “fro! Blood donation bank” but unfortunately (or today fortunately ) I never donated blood because of some medical reasons. So no chance of getting my number from blood donation bank.

Well if it is a fake organization and using name of innocent people then they should be punished by law for sure.

  11. Thanks man, i too received a call today. When i asked them how did they get my number?, they said that somebody i know who donated to this organization gave them my number. what a bunch of lying bastards.

Guess wat..I have been getting incessant calls as well..to save Pratigya Kumari..and dat too in Novemeber..ppl hav said dat they got the same call in july…and everything mentioned in this blog, has happened in my case as well..bt I was very careful nt to make any donations before becoming fully sure of their credentials..on top of it, everytime they call, it is from a new number..seriously these are a bunch of conmen..trust me, even d messages they sent me is rife with common spelling mistakes, which is another indication of this organisation as a fraudulent one..the volunteer in my case was MANISH (wonder whether d name is fake jus lyk d organisation, it’s address nd phone numbers)

    1. Hey the same thing , I getting call from Volunteer name Rohit Kapoor to again save pratigya Kumari. today is in hospital going for chemo… its really ridiculous to know that people are cheating like anything. you will never have any trust on any one. It seems this NGO is complete fake.

      1. Friends i got harassed with same emotional torture today on Baby name (pratigya Kumari). I just said i want to visit kid at AIIMS and whatever contribution i want to do i will do it directly to her family. but their representative started giving excuses like Sir you won’t have time it is difficult to meet child. This & that i told him that i am ready to invest my time and i have no issue visiting AIIMS but he was with no answer. I was in dilemma that should i help or not but after reading your blog i am convinced that i made right choice. Thanks a lot friend but i would make humble request to all kind hearten people. Never stop donation to true needy people and whatever small contribution you can make always prefer to give by your own hands. This particular incident defiantly have shaken our trust in humanity but keep the spirit high and make right choice in future for others.

        Regards
        Shail

  14. Today I recueved a call that a girl is at AIIMS and needs some medical surgery/treatment and sought some donation. Both the numbers were reported as spam by true caller.i am unable to judge is it a scam or real NGO??

  15. They just called me saying a baby is suffering from blood cancer and needs two lakh rupees. Thanks for this blog otherwise they would have conned me easily into paying some money for this.

  17. Thanks a lot ! Another similar scam is cancaretrust.org . All you kind hearted people , beware ! Don’t loose your hard earned money to these scams

    1. Just searched their name & complaints were endless. Thanks Vishnu for your help

  18. Got a call today for Anmol, thanks for the blog to save my time & Money

  19. Even I got calls …..they literally spam you with calls that make me feel something is tricky…. So next time when they called I say I am talking with cyber crime unit and they have tracked you….if you are true I will bear the whole cost of the baby needed surgery….. And after I didn’t get a single call….. This proves that they are fake …..they have spamed me with saying that please help so that we can take surgery date soon for open heart surgery….a baby needed open heart surgery is waiting for me from last 4 days …..it is medically faked . …any real NGO won’t force you to donate and I am not registered with relief India trust ….any real NGO won’t call you if you are not registered with them…its not legal ….and they should have a proper helpline no ….not calling from different mobiles.

  20. Hey, yes I too received a call just now at 7.00 PM. They have done their ground work very convincing. Thanks a ton for the information, saved from being a victim !!!

Thank you. Your blog saved my time, money and most of all – ‘The Guilt Conscience’
Yesterday I got a call from a girl (+919211136414 – True caller didn’t show any identity) in panicked voices, literally forcing me to donate immediately for a girl named pratigya kumari. Disease described was heart surgery, where they were falling Rs. 20,000.00 short.

They wanted me to transfer while she was willing to remain online. But unfortunately or fortunately, I was in hospital having treatment for myself. Still she was adamant, and asked me that she will follow up by the evening or next day morning so that i can be the medium to save the girl child. Even she sent me the sms containing the URL link of their website, signed by Vinni Kumar.

The whole scenario was so quick and pressurizing, it made me suspect the case. I googled and found your blog.

Thank you so much for whistle blowing……

  21. Thaks man really helpfull

  22. RELIEF INDIA TRUST IS A FAKE NGO.

Let me give you the complete detailed layout of the working structure of this

    organisation.

It is actually a call center running under the name “ACCORD BPO” located at:
    A-100, Ist Floor,
    New Harola, Labor Chowk,
    Sector – 4,
    Noida (U.P).

Contact no. : 0120-42583131,4546449,4545902 (all these numbers are as per

    given on their “offer letter”)
Their HR name and contact number is : Disha (9136123737)

check this link for a copy of the “letter of intent”: http://imgur.com/CNJZCwe

search for “accord bpo address” on google

    http://www.careerage.com/dispjob-Accord-BPO-Services-Tele-Callers-20130409-ca4b7435686a3ada1e0be37853ca1aa5.html

People (men/women) come here for interviews “everyday” without knowing what they are getting into.

They usually select everyone and make a batch of around 30-35 people. After that they are given a training of 3-5 days.

Then these trained people are transferred to the “FLOOR” (on first floor where the actual s#@t happens)

The floor has around 150 people working in 4 “PROCESSES”, namely R1, R2, R3 and RT (‘T’ —> people under training)

Each of these 4 ‘processes’ has a ‘Process Manager’.
and each of these ‘processes’ consists of 4 “TEAMS” that is again made up of 8-10 people.

Every ‘team’ is handled by a “TEAM LEADER”.
so you can do the math yourself: there are a total of 16 team leaders. (I can provide you with the names too, but that wont do any good, because these team leaders keep changing every 6 months or so)

AND the entire floor is handled by a single FLOOR MANAGER (currently being run by a shit of a guy named “PIYUSH”).

So there you have it, all the entire structure of this fake NGO, being run in an orderly manner.

Now coming to the working scenario:

The RT batch consists of fresh people who have just been transferred to the ‘floor’ (as I told you above). Each of them is given a initial “TARGET” of Rs 5000. This means that they have to earn a “TOLLING” of Rs 5000 by calling people in the first 15 days, or else they’ll be fired from the job (the first slap to people who thought they’ll start their career with this company).

Every guy/girl is given a “DATA”, an A-4 sized sheet that consists of 30
    contacts of “DONORS”.
They have to call on this number and try to convince (i.e. force) them by
whatever means to get money from them in the name of donation.

check this link for a copy of the “DATA”: http://imgur.com/WWf5Qtp

These “DATA”s usually has donors of south Indian cities, so as to invite less trouble.

Everyday, these people get around 6 “Data” sheets. (which makes it roughly around 130-150 calls being made by one person in a day)

After the first 15 days, out of the selected 30, only 5-8 unlucky people are left behind to continue working in this shit-hole.

If a ‘donor’ donates an amount of Rs 1000 or more, the caller gets 10% of that amount on spot as “INCENTIVE”.
As a former employee, I’ve seen ‘donors’ donating amounts like Rs 30k, 50k and also of 86k. And all this goes straight into the pockets of the owners.

The floor manager and all the process managers ‘maintain a constant pressure on all the callers, so as to get a “average tolling” of atleast Rs 1500 per person per day.
They would even make you work for long hours till 8 pm (given a starting
time of 9:30 am) if you don’t get your average tolling right. These f$%ktards will stoop down to any level to get what they want, i.e. MONEY.

Yes, they do have all the details and related legal documents, and a lot of
money and power has been able to save them from any legal troubles for the last 3 years.

I sincerely request, if any of the readers can bring this f#$@ing organisation down, please do so with utmost prejudice.

“For obvious reasons, I’ve removed the name of the person to whom the
    above copies belong.”

    1. Sanjeev: thanks for the very informative post. I’m sure there is an end of life to scams such as these, but unfortunately I can do no more than keeping this blog up & not giving in to any legal threats.

His complete name is “PIYUSH SHARMA” ( facebook id: https://www.facebook.com/piyush.sharma.58555?ref=br_rs )

I have to disagree about whats said in this blog.

I too received a similar call from the same trust to help Mater Sonu (Can see him in the website). I did not want to take anyone’s word so did a bit of googling. I asked them their registration number and they gave me 81349 which checks out on the http://www.ngo.india.gov.in. The website on the registration site also checks out. The certificate shows the registration date as 16/11/2011.

I furthur called AIIMS to check out the patient but unfortunately did not get any response from them.

Now i am torn between the blog and what i could find. But I think i might donate some amount unless someone can point out anything else.

I too got a call from 9211248994 mr. Piyush.he was asking for financial assistance in the name of a child soni singh.i was about to give d assistance of rs.15k as per his demand but your blog has saved me from the huge loss.thanks a lot.

  38. Guys I too got a phone call from relief India regarding the child PRATIGTA KUMARI who was suffering from blood cancer, in the month of July. Hearing the representative mourns I made a donation of ?1280.

I had asked them to keep me update about the baby’s treatment and all, but I didn’t get any sort of damn call from their team.

I tried calling their number several times but it was no use.
Their number was not valid at all.

After going through these posts, I came to know I have been tricked by these frauds.
They told the child’s condition was serious way back in the month of July and it has been 3 months and even today they are using sane the child’s name to fool people and collect donations.

    Something has to be done!

    1. Even I was given a SOS call by one volunteer named Geetanjali Sharma who gave panic calls quoting the patient name as Pratigya Kumari until I donated one thousand rupees and after that she didn’t update me with the status of the patient.
I looked at the case sheet of the patient posted online and found that they are very old cases and looked very much fake.

  45. I had received quite a few calls from Relief India Trust over the past few months for donations which I politely declined to donate quoting the negative image they had on the web. Today, I received a similar call from someone from “A Giggles Welfare Organization”. The modus operandi was quite similar. Starting with “God Bless……”, asking to visit a website (www.agwo.org) to to child-specific case page. Then ask for donation. I got suspicious and looked up the Whois database for the website. And LOL! Its registered under the same name “Vikrant Singh” and the same address as Relief India Trust. When I asked the caller about it he said he has no clue of any organization called Relief India Trust and his organization has nothing to do with it. Upon stressing that I found this information in the Whois database, he said he will check and call again.

What do these people make of us? I feel it an insult to my intelligence that they tried to pull something like this on me. No genuine trust would resort to tactics like this.

I think at the least we should report this to TRAI through our telecom operators for unwanted calls – violating Do Not Disturb conditions. Vishnu, since you are involved in a legal battle, it might be worth adding this to your case against them.

    1. I have received a call from +919210116834, and ask me to go to their website http://www.agwo.org immediately.. I replied that I will browse their website latter.. They insisted to open immediately. I refused to do so.

  46. Guys, I think am reading this article too late. I ve been donating every month a sum to these ppl. But am curious , they provided me their PAN No and a 80G cerificate. When i searched for their PAN in the Income Tax website it is listed as a Trust account and it seems so Genuine . Am now puzzled… infact hurt, i was in an assumption that money is spent for a cause

    1. Can you please upload and link their 80G certificate here? Please ask for audited accounts too, thanks!

  48. I got a persuasive call from a girl – mobile number 9211248839. It was about a baby patient named Pratigya Kumari. She asked for a contribution of more than Rs. 5000/-. Wow!! I agreed on the amount of Rs. 500/-. After I made the payment, their web server apparently failed to digest my payment!! It showed an error page!!
Regardless, I lost the money. No, it’s better to say that the money has just changed hands! LOL. She ended call telling me to try again after sometime.
Before she made her follow up call, I came across this blog! (Thanks, Vishnu Gopal!) I asked her about the date when they started raising funds for this baby. She replied, “3 days, sir.” (Did I hear it wrong?!) I asked again, are you sure?! She said, “yes”. Then I told her about my findings online regarding the same baby!! Then she clarified that she only has started volunteering on this since 3 days…… After further pushy lines about making the transaction again, the call got disconnected……. (what a relief!!)

Lesson? If you don’t like these kind of persuasive calls, show them the exit-door right away!!
